Lower Prut Reserve in Cahul has been included in UNESCO World Heritage. The decision was made by the organization after last year Moldsilva Agency filed a request on this regard.
The Reservation, which covers an area of 15,000 hectares, is the first internationally recognized country.
"More than 196 bird species have been identified in the reserve, 39 mammals species, with 9 reptile species and 7 amphibian species, 310 flower species", said the head of the science department within the Lower Prut reservation, Viorica Paladii.
Reservation administration claims that the organization is facing many problems and hopes these will be gradually eliminated after the international recognition.
Until now, the protection of the reservation has already been made through a recommended program run by UNESCO.
"This reservation covers several state-protected natural areas. First, it's scientific reserve Lower Prut with Beleu lake, the most important, the most beautiful lake, the aquatic environment in the Republic of Moldova," said the Superior Consultant of the Policy Department in Biodiversity, MADRM, Ala Rotaru.
