Mineral water Borjomi has become the subject of discussion and amusement in Parliament. The meeting then continued on... the architectural style of the churches.
The jokes, triggered by two Socialist MEPs' initiatives, sparked laughter among both legislators and journalists.
Socialist deputy Vladimir Ţurcan proposed in the Parliament's plenary session to discuss the possibility of three uninominal constituencies in the Gagauzian autonomy, not two as currently noted. More MPs suggested that the idea was belated.
"We finished that topic, now you wake up and want to support Gagauzia, it is too late to drink Borjomi (a brand of naturally carbonated mineral water from springs in the Borjomi Gorge of central Georgia) when the kidneys ceded, Mr. Turcan," said Corneliu Dudnic, PDM deputy.
The Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu also intervened the discussion.
"I will probably have to ask colleagues from the secretariat to arrange a little bit of Borjomi in the Parliament's cafeteria as we have lots of talks, as well as a greeting message to our colleagues in Georgia," Andrian Candu, the Speaker of Parliament.
Finally, Ţurcan came up with a reply to the the deputy who made illusion.
"Mr. Dudnic, if you talk about lobbying, then you, MP from Gagauzia, you have to do this. Do not lobby for the Borjomi water in Parliament, but for the interests of Gagauzia," said Vladimir Turcan, deputy PSRM.
The Socialists also proposed that the agenda should include the project that provides for the relief of customs duties on the import of bells from the Russian Federation for the Church Acoperământul Maicii Domnului in Vulcanesti. Previously, the document received a negative opinion from the Government. The idea also disliked the liberal Mihai Ghimpu.
"If the state supports the Church, this means we agree Russian church styles to continue in Moldova. We have nothing in this Russian style, here is the President of the Parliament, you are the head of the most supreme organ of the Republic of Moldova. "Mihai Ghimpu, PL president.
"I did not know that the President of the Parliament has to deal with the architectural style of the churches, but I will check the Parliament's Rules in addition," Andrian Candu, the Speaker of Parliament.
None of the initiatives proposed by the socialists were supported by the other Members.
