Serghei Tarnovschi suspended for four years after failing anti-doping test

A new hit for Moldovan sport.

Serghei Tarnovschi got suspended for four years by the International Canoe Federation after failing the anti-doping test a few days after winning the bronze medal at the Rio Olympics. 

Moreover, the international fora cancelled all results registered from the date the positive sample was collected, 8 July 2016. Thus, the medal won at the Rio Olympics will be taken away from him.

The decision is not a final one. Serghei Tarnovschi has the legal right to appeal it to the Supreme Court of Arbitration for Sport from Lausanne during 21 days from the moment of receiving the decision from the National canoe federation

According to a press release from the National Olympic and Sports Committee, Serghei tarnovschi and his lawyer Paul Green already decided to appeal to the Supreme Court of Arbitration for Sport

If he will be stripped of his medal, Tarnovschi will be the third athlete of Moldova who remains without the Olympic distinction in the last months.

At the end of 2016, weightlifters Cristina Iovu and Anatolie Ciricu were left without the bronze medals won at the London Olympics 2012.

The International Olympic Committee suspended the Moldovan athletes for doping, also withdrawing their medals.
