An initiative group from Cluj-Napoca, in partnership with TVR Cluj, has launched a campaign to raise aid for the Moldovan frontline doctors who have been fighting the new coronavirus.
The first donation came from the Bistriţa-Năsăud County Council and the Red Cross.
"We tried to prepare a package of protection materials for our partners. A thousand masks, a thousand pairs of gloves and a hundred liters of biocide, disinfectant," said Radu Moldovan, president of Bistrita Nasaud County Council.
"Certainly blood is not made of water. Any donation that reaches people in need is valuable and helps others survive, get over this pandemic", said Marius Moldovan, president of the Red Cross, Bistrita Nasaud branch.
The campaign will last until July.
"At the beginning of July, the collected products will arrive in the Republic of Moldova. These volunteers of the Cluj Initiative Group contacted the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Republic of Moldova and received a list of necessary materials," said organizer Emilia Avram.
"This donation means a lot for the citizens of the Republic of Moldova. According to the latest data on the coronavirus situation, there are over 1200 medical workers infected with COVID-19 out of over 5000 confirmed cases", said Mihail Rotaru, a member of the Bessarabian Initiative Group.
Last week, Romania sent medical aid worth 3.5 million euros to Moldova. A convoy of 20 trucks carried protective equipment, medicine.
