The modifications of the electoral system of Moldova were discussed at a press conference, organized by the Institute of Legislative Creation “Lex scripta”.
The president of the Institute, Mihai Corj, stated that he supported the politicians’ initiatives to introduce a new mixed electoral system.
“We have always insisted on improving the legal frame, this is what we do and all the proposals, referring to the new modifications of the Electoral Code, must be discussed and analyzed. The amendments that are proposed to the Electoral Code and to the related legislation don’t seem to be bizarre. We have come up with improvements for 20 years, we have talked about the necessity to draft a new Electoral Code, we speak on the uninominal system, we supported it years ago, so everything is to be done in time the way it is necessary and we support this initiative now,” Mihai Corj said.
At the same time, Corj suggests that the Parliament took into account the citizens’ opinion before passing anything.
"Any proposal must be welcomed, we must be glad the politicians finally come up with propposals. We must come with arguments and analyze, very well, every decision. Above all, we must take into account, first of all, to create a responsible and conscious citizen in the Republic of Moldova, to aim that the entire society is well-informed and to take an assumed and responsible decision. Every activity must be transparent and in benefit of the society,” Corj added.
