During the current visit to Strasbourg, the Moldovan political delegation led by Vlad Plahotniuc held a meeting with Gianni Buquicchio, President of the Venice Commission.
The discussions were focused on Moldova’s cooperation with the Venice Commission, as PDM Chairman Vlad Plahotniuc appreciated the advice provided several times by the Commission to Moldovan authorities working towards improving the national legislation.
“I thanked Mr. Buquicchio for the expertise offered in the legislative making process in Moldova. This expertise is useful and valuable to us. We have discussed the manner in which we use the recommendations of the Venice Commission – as in the case of many legislative initiatives sent by the Parliament for expert opinions. I am confident that we will continue to collaborate positively with the Venice Commission. Moldova is keen on this collaboration and the country needs it,” as Vlad Plahotniuc declared.
Gianni Buquicchio, President of the Venice Commission, asserted that he is “a friend of Moldova,” and that our country is “a good student” in what concerns the Commission’s area of interest, namely improving the legislation and the functioning of democratic institutions. Gianni Buquicchio has also emphasized the necessity of continuing the democratic reform process in our country. In respect to the introduction of the mixed voting system, the Venice Commission President has reaffirmed the sovereignty of Moldova, explaining concurrently the differences of vision encountered by the Commission on this subject.
