Four days after the storm struck, a large swath of Florida's Panhandle was suffering, from little beach towns to the larger Panama City, to rural communities miles from where Hurricane Michael came ashore.
More than 190,000 homes and businesses in Florida were without electricity, along with about 120,000 in Georgia.
Destin, some 45 miles (72 km) west of the Panama City area, was heavily damaged by Hurricane Michael.
Fish remain scattered on the beach, days after the storm passed through.
Many people displaced by the storm are staying in hotels in Destin.
