Republic of Moldova will be represented at the Olympic Winter Games by only 2 sportsmen. At the event, which will begin on February 9 in Pyeongchang, will participate Cristopher Hoerl, a former members of Austria's National Ski Association, who represents Republic of Moldova for the past year and a half.
Hoerl is the ninth foreign athlete that will represent our country at the Winter Olympics. The second Moldovan sportsman who qualified in the Olympics is Nicolae Gaiduc. He will compete at the cross-country skiing category.
"I believe the sportsman participating in alpine skiing is more treasured, but as I said before, we do not have big hopes and aspirations, because we understand very well the competition" head of National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Moldova, Nicolae Juravschi said.
Republic of Moldova is participating in Winter Olympics since 1994. Most representatives were in 2010, held in Vancouver, when our country was represented by 7 sportsmen.
Natalia Levcenkova is the athlete that managed to gain the best result in the history of Moldova at the Winter Olympics.
At the 2006 edition from Turin, Russian biathlon won 8th place in the 15 km individual race.
