They're meant to be best friends, but not every man and his dog shares this kind of bond.

Incredible footage has emerged of a man fighting a large kangaroo in the Australian Outback in an effort to protect his pet pooch from the aggressive animal's clinches, reports Daily Mail.

The moment the man stood toe-to-toe and traded punches with the marsupial to save his dog 'Max' was captured on camera by a friend, who videoed the fight from the safety of his vehicle.

The video was taken on what appeared to be a hunting trip in rural bushland.
