More strict law regarding the information labels read on food products. Manufacturers will have to quit writing features their products hold in case it is false. Especially, labels will no longer promise to help people get in shape, or cure illnesses. A new law for this was published in the Official Monitor.
According to the document, labels have to contain the name of the product, its components, as well as information regarding expiration and manufactured dates. Moreover, manufacturers will have to write correct storage conditions and the nutrition labeling that will contain the energy value of the product.
The document foresees the necessity to indicate the ingredients that might cause allergies. Among them counts lupini, peanuts or lactose. Therefore, consumers will be protected from side effects the food products might cause.
Doctors recommend us to carefully read labels of food products before purchasing them.
"There are people who suffer from allergies, some more severe then others. It would be useful if manufacturers could include in the list of components all products that might trigger allergy reactions" doctor, Nadejda Plăcintă said.
People claim that at the moment, few food products sold in supermarkets contain correct labeling information.
"It is necessary for us to have the correct information, but not all people read the labels."
"My child has allergies and I am careful of what the product contains, because it might cause a problem. Therefore, this law will be of great help."
"It would be best if the law was more strict, because food products are not well controlled."
The document will come into force in a year, when the Government will elaborate and adopt all the necessary acts to implement the law.
