The Government has approved today a project, according to which veterans from Republic of Moldova, starting 1 April 2018, will receive new ID cards. Therefore, the number of citizens who fought in various wars or armed conflicts will be recalculated, as well as the security of documents proving that a person is a veteran increased.
The VIC will be changed in stages, starting 1 April 2018 and to 31 December 2020, during which period both ID cards will be valid. This year, new Veteran ID Cards will be issued to 15 000 veterans, in 2019 to another 15 000 and in 2020 to 10 000 veterans. As a result, by 2021, the only usable Veteran ID Cards will be of the new type.
The new IDs will be issued and created by Public Service Agency. For this aim in 2018, the budget will offer 525 thousand lei.
At the moment, Defense Ministry registers around 40 000 people who fought in wars or armed conflicts and have the status of veteran.
