The Government has approved a law project which foresees renaming the official language from Moldovan to Romanian in Article 13 from the Republic of Moldova's Constitution.
Therefore, in the Supreme Law, Romanian language might become the state language of Republic of Moldova.
The legislative proposal is in accordance with the Decision made by the Constitutional Court No. 36 from 5th December 2013, which states that between the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence is superior.
The Declaration of Independence of Republic of Moldova, approved through law No. 691 on 27th August 1991, states that the official language of Republic of Moldova is Romanian language.
