The wage of customs officers will be doubled in 2017 and will exceed nine thousand lei. The amount will be determined based on the employee's performance.
The working conditions will also improve, but at the same time, employees will have more obligations as stipulated in the new Code of Ethics and Conduct, which was presented today, November 16th, during a press conference.
"The new code will help customs officials in making decisions daily, as a manual of guide for the customs officer where he thinks or is tempted to violate the legal rule or to violate those rules ethics or conduct" , said the customs inspector of Department of Homeland Security, Artiom Popenco.
"Basically, there was only a battle won in the war against corruption in the Customs Service." , said Deputy Head of EUBAM, Adrian Costache.
Head of Customs Service, warns that failure of following the Code of Ethics will cost the customs officers very much.
The reform and increase the salaries of customs officials, will currently start at 3,400 lei.
"We plead for a double salary increase, depending on performance and quality. The coefficients will be from 0.8 to 1.5." , said Head of Customs service, Vitalie Vrabie.
Also, starting with January 1st, Customs will activate under a new organizational chart. The seven offices will be reorganized into three divisions, and management functions will be reduced in favor of the executive. As a result, the number of employees will decrease by approximately 200 people.
Since the beginning of 2016, state budget revenues collected by the Customs Service amounts to over 14 billion lei, with almost 10-per-cent more than the same period last year.
