Moldova eyes free trade deal with China. ‘We could get more investments’

A free trade accord with China would open a market of over 1.4 billion for the Moldovan goods. The advantages of such a deal were presented at the Economy Ministry.

"We try to expand the multitude of free trade deals, to go to other markets. Our interest would be to use these opportunities to attract investments," Economy Minister Octavian Calmîc said.

"The wine and the walnut kernel are the key products imported by China from Moldova. In 2000, China imported almost no Moldovan wine, but now 7% of the wine goes to China," said Andreas Lendle, a GIZ consultant.

According to official statistics, China imported Moldovan goods worth $14 mn, 6 mn more year over year.
