Andrian Candu on the Venice Commission’s recommendations concerning changing the electoral system

Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu, mentions that the Republic of Moldova is in compliance with the recommendations of the Venice Commission and treats them with due care.

"I am referring to the legal ones, for which we have addressed those experts when we passed the initiative concerning the change of the electoral system," Candu said on his blog.

The Speaker mentioned in his article that he want to refer to a point of these recommendations. The one about polarization and consensus, which contains a subjective side and should be analyzed, in terms of what has happened in recent years.

"Is Moldova polarized only in terms of changing the electoral system? The answer is very obvious. Unfortunately, our country is polarized in general, on all important topics. But in particular it is polarized when talking about geopolitics, including european path. " concluded Candu.

We assume all responsibility for changing the current electoral system that has failed and the reformation of the political class. We will grant citizens the right to elect deputies in the most democratic and transparent way, to choose directly, as they were promised in the election by almost all parties, including those who today tries not to comply with this law.

The Republic of Moldova needs this reform. People want to change our political class, and changing the electoral system is a first step in this direction.

There are important legal and technical recommendations, given by the Venice Commission, which we shall take into account to improve the bill. We will return with public comments and solutions to these recommendations.” Andrian Candu emphasized.
