Alexandru Spiridon is new coach of Moldovan national football team

Alexandru Spiridon is the new coach of the national football team of the Republic of Moldova. The announcement was made by the President of the Moldovan Football Federation, Pavel Ciobanu, after the governing board unanimous vote.

"We are glad that he has chosen to take this step, I think that in this situation Moldavian football needs to be helped by those whom he has consecrated, with the baggage and the experience they have accumulated abroad and to be of use to our country" , said Pavel Ciobanu, FMF president

"After the New Year, Mr. Pavel Ciobanu told me that it is such a possibility to take over the national team and I decided that why not a very interesting adventure, especially this League of Nations," said Alexandru Spiridon, coach.

Alexandru Spiridon will sign a one-year contract with a one-year extension option and his secondary will be Andrei Martin and Sergiu Botnaras.

"We will play in the League of Nations. Of course we have to set ourselves the first goal in the group because we will not play with Germany or England," says Pavel Ciobanu, FMF president.

"The goal was set to rank first in the group, and the goal for the play-off will be established after the end of the group stage," said Alexandru Spiridon, a selectionist.

Alexandru Spiridon replaced Igor Dobrovolschi, whose contract expired at the end of the last year.

The new selector will be redeemed on the national team's bench in the friendly games in Antalya. On January 27, the "tricolori" will meet South Korean team in the city on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey, and on January 30 - Azerbaijan.

"Apart from Epureanu, Ioniţă and Gaţcan, I do not know any other footballer, not even in appearance, on the one hand this is good, and tomorrow I will begin to get acquainted with them. I will have the best players, "said Alexandru Spiridon.

Alexandru Spiridon is the most titled Moldavian coach. During the time when the Romanian tenchian Mircea Lucescu was second to Şahtar Donetsk, he won with the Ukrainian team not less than 22 trophies.

With "miners" he became eight times champion of Ukraine and won 6 times the Cup and 7 times the Supercup of Ukraine. Spiridon's biggest performance with Lucescu and Şahtar was achieved internationally: in the 2008-2009 season, the Ukrainian club conquered the UEFA Cup defeating the German team Weredxer Bremen in the final 2-1.

After 12 years spent in Şahtar, Alexandru Spiridon and Mircea Lucescu arrived at Zenit St. Petersburg. After a season, the two technicians were disbanded from the Russian club.

Spiridon also coached before going to Ukraine on Tiraspol, Zimbru, Chisinau and Nistru Otaci. In 2001, he led the first representative in four games, and the "tricolori" won a victory and suffered 3 defeats.
